Hey I know the light helmet is disabled but maybe that's for a different reason? Would it be possible to have dynamic lights such as torches emitting light in your hand? For reference heres a mod I found, http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/184426-151-dynamic-lights-handheld-torches-moving-lightsources/
This was brought up before and the reason we can't have either is because of the lag caused by constant lighting updates It would be so nice to have thou!
It might be possible to have dynamic lighting client sided that is to say your client would do all the extra work the only problem is finding a mod that is purely client sided and getting it to fit and work with other mods mind you if you did this you would suffer some extra lag where others wouldn't. edit: the mod you posted actually fits the bill you could take a shot at installing it using the launcher (add-on option) note the light wont actually be there on the server meaning light your holding wont actually stop spawning mobs etc
Yes, there are mods like that, fx (think fullbright mods) where the only client does the lighting calculations. Problem comes in thou when the calculations actually count for something like mob spawning, ice melting, etc. when it's server-side. Blame Jeb/Notch.
So we can install dynamic lights at our own risk (in case we abuse of it). This is the same problem as for DirectX games, and SweetFX. It is client sided, but can light up somewhere there shouldn't be that much light, so people that think to be hidden in the dark/in the background are spotted because of this mod.
its not all that abusive i mean you can turn your monitor up and get the same effect this is more aesthetics then anything
