(Not much in the way of rules, but please do not use any derogatory against anyone's opinion) This discussion has been brought up in-game quite a number of times and I'm honestly tired of defending it from people who seem to find it very hard to accept that it improves the overall game-play and end game. I mean seriously, do you want a server that you can have quantum and grav and everything else in less then a few week?, or would you rather play on a server and actually invest some time into what you're doing, and have fun making elaborate and complicated machines to raise up to the various tiers of tech and machinery? Take the diamond drill for example, yes titanium might be annoying to get at the start, but once you get to mining and have the bauxite, it's really not that big of a deal. It's just as I said, only a few extra steps. Especially with all the stuff you have to make, can further benefit you largely later up the line. When it comes to the machinery, yes i do agree that some things might not be worth the over complication. But i mean seriously, it's only a few steps more to what you're used to. I mean, especially with the amount of variety you have for getting different things is just insane. Granted the times of the various machines, like the Industrial centrifuge and electrolyzer might be a little bit hefty in some instances. But nothing you can't just setup and come back to later. So please, post your opinions about gregtech, and what you think would be right or not.
I do like some of the stuff gregtech brings tot he table, but I do not like what it makes people do to get what we once had. Think of any other non MMORPG game out there that takes you a month of playing almost all day every day just to get to what one might consider end game. There aren't any. Expecting people to invest 200+ hours just to get quantum to me just seems silly. On top of that it causes people to push harder and cause more stress on the server. Then as I have found I have been spending all my time just trying to get iridium instead of enjoying building and interacting with other players on the server, even where I am with 25 nukes, if I die and lose my quantum/gravichest it would take me another 2 days to get one back. I live in a hole under a volcano, literally. I have been trying to get to where I feel comfortable with my output and resources to get started on my build, but I do not see that time coming soon, and I play a LOT. Honestly I did not want the gravi chest for the armor factor, I wanted it for the creative fly so I could build easier. The way it was, who cares if it takes a week to get quantum, I worked a bloody week! I did not get payed, I should get something pretty dam nice for working towards it a whole week. Players were happy before, yes quantum was OP, but it still took quite a bit of work to get it, players should be made happy for their work, not turned into ore, resource and power hungry slaves to get it. </rant>
I like gregtech, but I feel that if the times were toned down a hell of a lot, it would be a really great mod, not everyone can keep machines always loaded at all times, and with a lot of the machines having such long times, it just does a server more harm than good. I do like that it takes some more resources, because IC2 really makes things like quantum way too easy to get, and it adds some really great machines, just wish that GT would take a hell of a lot less time to accomplish things in, or that there were ways to create overclockers for GT machines.
I like that its harder, but on a server where everyone has to share some of the rare resources like sheldonite or server ticks... It could be toned down a bit...
From the IC^2 GregTech thread: Of all the config options that GregTech allows I would choose to re-enable the Iridium plate Implosion Compressor Recipe. After playing single player with that recipe enabled I actually miss setting up a way to get gunpowder and making ITNT. It's true that Quantum becomes more difficult to obtain, but that's the point of GregTech. Oh wow! I was just going through some of the recent updates for GregTech and it finally looks like he has added upgrade support for several of his machines like the electrolyzer and centrifuge. It also looks like the recipe for the Fusion Reactor and Coils is being nerfed. And there is something called a Plasma reactor. http://gregtech-addon.wikispaces.com/Change Log When I get off work I will try to test some of this out. EDIT: I forgot to add a thread from the FTB forums from back in November when GregTech was first added to the mod pack. http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/please-do-not-include-gregtech-in-the-pack.630/
The standard IC2 machine upgrades like the overclocker. From what I'm was reading in the thread it seems that for each overclocker the EU requirements increase massively.
I... I think I officially hate "Greg" now -.- he is nerfing the fusion reactor, thorium AND the matter fab >.< how can you nerf the matter fab!?!?!?! The matter fab, the biggest nerf in the history of nerfdom, and he is going to nerf it again! He is one evil little man.
From what I can tell they are all betas for 1.4.7 and he is planning a release for 1.5, I do not know if there will be a full release witht hese features for 1.4.7
I read nerfing as making it easier to obtain, currently the fusion reactor/coil, is just not worth it. And looking at the new Matter Fab limit, just make more matter fabs, if you already have that much power it shouldn't be hard to make more...
Just make more matter fabs? Think how many matter fabs it will take to keep up with a fusion reactor. That is just plain silly.
Welp, my body is ready. Pics of the new fusion reactor setup http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&postID=106400#post106400 and here's a video of it being put together Hurray for direct liquid input!
Well I cannot speak for Mouse, however we are at the point where quantum is in sight Mouse has made a lot of progress in Bees and I've learned a bit more about reactors as I go. Do I think it should be rushed? Not unless you're the type to get enjoyment out of designing a base more than actually building up. If anything I'd like to see Gregtech on a harder difficulty. However that would discourage newer players from sticking around. On the same coin though it might encourage people to actually work together in small communities. But Minecraft to me is no an MMO it's a creative game. For myself I like building things compact as possible how many things can I get in to one area and keep it loaded. At this point Alice provides that challenge perfectly.
With every update there are pro's and cons. How about instead of complaining and bitching about the cons, we ask SK to turn off the feature's in the config... Since there is one. I am not saying do not express your views, just think a little before you do.
hard mode iridium needs to be removed creepers don't spawn enough due to server tic and bees aren't everyone's cup of tea plates are needless as is assembler just Greg saying hey im going to add 2 machines and over 100 recipes have fun essentially giving us the (finger my opinion) dont get me started on adv sola recipe and that's just this patch i could go on
The advanced solar recipe modification, is not gregtechs addition. The dev of advanced solars added because he though the recipe was too cheap. But nevertheless. You don't have to use bees, or creepers. You can easily make gunpowder from sulfur and niter/saltpeter with charcoal/coal dust.
