I got into a fuss with some people on the server about AE and LP. It is to my understanding that AE is to replace LP. When trying to explain this to people still investing time and resources into a LP system, I was quite literally told to shut up and that I was a moron by several people on the server, and that AE was to compliment LP. To me the whole reason of implementing AE was to replace LP, not compliment it. I made the bold prediction that within two weeks of the mining world being reset and being given ample time to implement an AE replacement for LP that Logipipes would be removed from the server. At that point someone asked a mod for me to be muted, and the statement that I was a moron was repeated. So here is my simple question. Are logipipes going to continue existing on the server, or are they going to be removed?
There is a reason that AE does not extend the segments of another mod, and only provides interfaces that allow for the use of other mods with AE. AE was designed as a more relevant and significantly less computationally costly alternative to LP. Let me ask why AE requires more power to operate? or why AE uses an instant access system? or why AE tries to be simplistic in transmission design? or why AE uses disks as apposed to slots in a traditonal inventory? These choices, whether they may be conscious or not, all affect the cost to run a mod. At the moment, running a moderately basic logistics system that is able to complete a real goal is very intensive on the server. At the point, to avoid having to explain more, I will leave this as a black box. Attempting to say that AE is intended to augment LP or vice versa is non-understanding of why AE takes the exact same usage niche as LP. AE is not designed for use with LP and will never really be, no matter what a wiki says.
Applied Energistics is fully intended by the mod author to be used alongside Logistic Pipes. If it wasn't designed to work with LP the bi-directional request wouldn't be built into the mod and it wouldn't be listed on AE's front page as being a major feature of the mod. Additionally there have been multiple updates to the AE mod including or fixing compatibility with LP. Even quotes like this: or this example of using AE + LP: I understand you guys hate LP and love AE now, but that doesn't change the fact that AE is not intended to replace LP by design regardless of that being the intention for how we're trying to implement it on SKCraft.
Enlighten me if I don't understand "bi-directional requesting." It seems to be a group of incomprehensible words. The example you posted could be completely done in AE without much hassle at all, hell, it could be done with ZERO power using plain old BC3! EDIT: A mod author addind compatibility for other mods into theirs does not necessarily mean that the mod author indended for this mod to work alongside another. It also does not mean that this mod must be used with said other mod in order to grasp the true potential of the intent of said mod. Does a mod like BC3 require IC2 solely because it provides compatibility to such? TC requires BC3 because it was designed around it. AE was not designed around LP.
Kylania, LP does some things that AE doesn't do, or that AE does do, but taking up more space to do it. That said, LP is a problem, and everything SK has said and I've read until how has indicated AE, as used on SKCraft, is intended as a replacement.
All of the server-intensive things LP does (like your base automations), AE can do better. Pretty sure it's the little things where LP is meant to be used that shouldn't affect the server too much. This shouldn't completely replace LP, just most of it
The automations in LP do comprise most of the cost of running LP but there are still issues with leaving LP installed. The LP update thread is also fairly big. Editing any BC3 contraption will cause LP updates.
Not that kind of update. The updates in-game when you break a block and all the LP pipes re-write their routing tables.
Additionally, because AE uses a total addition system instead of an incremental addition system, updates to a network can be handled in a much mote efficient way.
Before it does get deleted(if it does), I think we should get 3 things, a way to covert log pipe systems over into AE items, like the log pipe power unit, easier way to get quartz, because as it is, it is too rare of an ore for a mod that can only be used to organize items, this one might not be configurable, but please lower the power consumption of that mod, it should be similar to log pipes, if you intend to replace log pipes.
1. It was intended to use like an npc or something to replace all your logipipe stuff with base ingredient and/or quartz. 2. The mining world is being reset, that's enough. 3. Lolno, the power consumption is what makes it balanced.
Whether we remove LP depends on: Whether an update to LP (we are more than a few versions behind) improves performance significantly. Whether AE itself doesn't consume an equal or greater amount of resources. Whether AE can sufficiently replace a large amount of usefulness that LP provides. For #1, we have to update and see. For #2, I have to profile and see. For #3, either I have to use mod personally or find someone I can fully trust who knows what they are doing. Because those three are still pending, I cannot say whether we are removing LP yet.
Quartz is found at higher level then most other ores i see this causing people making more bores just to make sure they get quartz they need so perhaps it might be an idea to consider a shop at spawn just an idea.
Quartz is found above diamond level and below sea level. This is almost the same distribution as copper as well (I think copper stays a little higher) People already have to either run their bore again at a higher level, make another bore at a higher level, make their bore reach a higher level (not that hard), make a frame quarry, or use a regular BC quarry to get the copper that they need. Selling quartz at the market will not alleviate this.
