    Many sites are protesting the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Act in the US by going black on January 18th. These bills would make the US able to add sites to a national blacklist. co.uk and other domains are also affected by this. This is also known as censoring. We should go black, if not the servers at least the forums, to help protest these bills.

    The only people we'd be sending a message to are the people on the server, who are easily informed, and probably already are, of SOPA/PIPA. So it wouldn't really do any good to "blackout" anything. If you really want to make a mark, get Jeb to blackout MineCraft.

    minecraft.net is going down, and so is mojang.com. I don't know if this applies to the servers as well, but sign-in is probably going to go down.

    If MineCraft does go down, then there's no use blacking-out this server, is there?

    Only the Minecraft website (along with the Mojang and Cobalt sites) will be shut down. Login servers will not be affected. A banner will also be displayed in the launcher.

    As far as what this server is doing, I've made the motion to drastically alter the color scheme of the forums, post an announcement and alert here, and to edit the MOTD on all three servers. The servers' uptime will not be directly impacted.
