Please remove "excited bees" from ExtraBees from the server. Some users are using them for "unlimited power" and it's causing constant and extremely loud thunder to happen SERVER WIDE. This is interrupting and degrading gameplay for absolutely everyone so that one person can get power without effort. It will only get worse as more and more people breed these unbelievably annoying bees. We banned Rainsticks for this same reason, lets ban these bees as well please. And no, having everyone else remove the "thunder sound" sound file is not an acceptable resolution to this griefing.
It is impossible to remove a single bee without removing the whole mod. A good solution would be to just disable weather in your optifine settings.
In all my experiments in Singplayer I could never get the lightning produced by Excited bees to affect the Lightning rod even once.
sk89q fixes things through "hacking" the Java source code and looking at what's wrong. I think he can do the same thing with bees: "hack" the source code, look at the bees, remove excited bees! The best would be that bees are in class files with their name, so the bee would get as easy to delete as a file on your desktop!
If you had any experience in Forge programming, or Java programming at all, you would know that just deleting a .class file would have much greater repercussions on the rest of the code. In order to add a bee, or any item per say, you need to have references to the "file" in other parts of the code. Additionally, because mods use references to Minecraft classes (which are in the default package and therefore cannot be referenced from anywhere other than there) sk89q would have to decompile (or find sources) for everything inside the jar and then edit, recompile, reobfuscate, and push a client update. Basically, this boils down to whether you want SK to fix an annoyance (which can be solved by changing the lightning .ogg file and setting it to read only) or to fix problems of greater importance (i.e. Mining World and various crash bugs). EDIT: GregTech only allows the use of natural lightning for power generation. Forge lightning hooks segregate mod-created and natural lightning.
Yes I know it will have repercussion, especially in loading the bee, but it shouldn't crash Minecraft, just SPAM THE CONSOLE AS HELL (if there's one), and if it crashes... THen we klnow why... Also, I don't think that each bee has it's own class file, or it should have a one that lists every kind of bees, wich could crash the server on loading -_- So that's why I said that basically, sk89q would just "hack" the source code (or at least something close to it, with jd-gui, for exemple) and then work with it to finally remove the bee!
Are we even certain that's what is generating the lightning? My group is of the opinion someone who is bad at Thaumcraft is generating it, because I assure you, the Lightning Rod gains no benefit from Excited Bees.
As real, I know WHO makes those lightnings.... http://skcraft.com/threads/alice-server-wide-power.1191/ At least it was a good idea to provide free energy to everyone!
Alright, he's using them to make Redstone. So it is the bees. What, if anything, should be done about it?
I Would just say turn off the weather in your optifine settings. You'll get the flashing sky, but you won't hear the lightning. Because i really don't want the mod removed.
Excited bees are like the sole bee provider of red stone. I don't want them removed at all. Besides you can't generate lightning for the lightning rod with them. If anything just make it against the rules to do lightning bees without disabling the Lightning effect (easily accomplished using a No Effect Serum)
I think it is mainly flux, as my "buddy" put in four stacks of coal into a crucible near spawn, to make one thaumium. pretty useless I would say, but he did get banned for it as it completely killed every single animal nearby-including farms.
