This was referenced last night on the server, I am just posting it here as a reference in case it is forgotten as it was quite late. The Thaumcraft nodes are not distributing vis at all, so wands do not recharge and the repair enchant on tools does not work at all. This disables a large portion, if not most of, the mod as anything requiring a wand cannot be done. I think it may be due to a malformed/corrupt/missing nodes file. That is just a hunch because if the file were corrupt it could cause issues other than simply not working. **edit** Apparently there are nodes, just incredibly few of them. I have personally only seen 3 now. I caught wind of another bug that may or may not be caused by Thaumcraft, and it may or may not be an actual issue as I just heard people talking about it in passing. Apparently they were having an issue with filling the cauldron/crucible with water. It would fill the crucible when right clicked with a bucket, but it would also place a water source block as well.
If your wand isn't recharging, you're probably too far away from a node. Craft a Thaum-o-meter and follow it to get to the nearest node. Had the same problem
That is the point, there is no node for over 500 blocks, spawn is dead, and people's nodes are disappearing. In any SP world I have played the world is filled with nodes, you go on top of a tall tree at any point and you will see at least 3-5 nodes, on alice I only know of 3-5 nodes on the whole server, and one of those is in the nether. alice is devoid of nodes, most of the world is a vis deadzone. I can't even create a node, due to the fact that you have to be near another node to do so. This is not the way Thaumcraft is supposed to be.
I may look into adding new nodes into the world by editing the data files, if TC doesn't have a way for me to add new nodes.
I know that in the config there is a way to regenerate nodes, it is part of the system to add thaumcraft to existing worlds, it has options to add the ores and the nodes, I have heard of people missing nodes before and the solution was to regenerate nodes using the config option. They said that you change the config and restart, the server will lag for a few minutes while it generates the nodes, and then everything will be back to normal. I do not know what effect this would have on existing nodes, I will look into whether they will stay or not.
The server lag could fluctuate for days... It doesn't regenerate every chunk, it only regenerates loaded chunks, meaning unloaded chunks won't lag until a player logs in. One possible solution would be to get a (temporary) mod that keeps the entire map loaded, keep the server locked down for ~1hr and just let it go. But, what's to stop aura nodes from just despawning on us, again? The regen should just reset existing nodes, which is a good thing for those with a high flux. It functions like a seed, meaning it won't generate any new nodes in new places, just new nodes in places where they should be (or are).
I was told that it retains nodes. We actually used the node regeneration feature on a server I played with Jon and friends because nodes corrupted, and the server seemed to handle fine. The lag was imperceptible, though the scale was also much less.
I can see the nearest node from my house, but my wand won't charge and my silverwood won't grow. Yet the goggles of revealing show that node information where I'm at, it just doesn't affect me for some reason. Maybe chunk not staying loaded?
Well, a Silverwood never grew in my area. So I planted it again between the corrupted node and my house. It finally grew being closer. The aura in my area dropped from 408/408 High to 78/78 None. I still can't charge wands in my house though, I need to go 5 squares towards the other node. I'd be real happy with a total wipe and redo of the aura nodes.
The display of the available vis only applies to the closest node. It does not matter all that much as when a node is low on vis, it will pull in vis from nodes around it. The fact that it says 78 tells me that the nodes did not combine. If you place the silverwood sapling within 5-7 blocks of a node, when it grows the nodes will combine. You can use this to walk a node in small steps towards your house. Also note that when two nodes combine it pretty much maxes the flux, so prepare for wisps, lightning, angry zombies, and random potion effects. If you do combine nodes, do not leave or use golems outside, and stay inside as much as possible, the lightning that is produced targets players and golems alike.
