Well, Thermal Expansion is a mod that add similar functionality as IC² does, but runs on BC energy. If u turn on GregTech hard recipes IC² will almost not get used as it will be way more expensive. The normal recipes are pretty much equal
I'd say get all the mods and let the noobs see how hard it is to balance it all and make it bug free.
Not happening. We are making a game experience that is much better than FTB or any other mod pack (see sk's previous comments about different player roles).
That is why I kind of don't want Mystcraft, it wouldn't be "survival anymore" unless linking book is disabled and all kind of weird teleportation
I thought SK didn't like Cheaty mods like EE; And now we are considering about using it. ! Its Fine by me of whether we use it or not! Though, Thaumcraft is not a mod liked by me! Thaumcraft is TOO confusing!
God no. Compact Solars or Advanced Solars pretty much make any other form of IC2 power generation a waste of time. IC2's new nuclear reactors are much better and cheaper than they were, and with Gregtech there are a bunch of advanced power sources added as well. If I had my druthers IC2 infinite water/solar power sources would be disabled all together. That would make EU's more like MJ in terms of value. Gregtech's configuration options are very extensive. The admins will be able to tweak just about every feature in the mod.
SK this is my plea, even if you do block turtles again, PLEASE keep ComputerCraft and add Miscperipherals. They add so many cool and useful things for the regular computers. (example: last week I setup one of the computer controlled sorters to relay all of the items it gets to a PHP script, which then adds the item to a MySQL database. I now have a web interface to check to see what items I have. IMO thats awesome) There are also 1000000 more possibilities for a nerfed ComputerCraft (no turtles and "whitelisted" HTTP Api). SK please please please add in MiscPeripherals!!!
Do you merely not want to use Thaumcraft, or do you think that it will cause problems for the server? I can see that it might not be something everyone would want to use, but the solution is simple, just don't use it. If you think that it will cause issues for the server, than you should state those issues. The last thing any of us want is a new mod to overpower the rest of the server.
I wouldn't mind seeing EnderStorage installed. If the sharedness of the storage is the thing preventing it from being installed, ChickenBones made it so you can use a diamond on the latch to move it to a private 'network'. (It is also open source, so I could modify the code to make this cheaper, or the default)
Just the issue of gregtech modifying the recipe of what should be "beginning machines" like the macerator. And the basic machines that thermal expansion adds. Even though they use completely different power sources people still think it's a problem.
Since I last played, I felt that there were too MANY mods. Simplicity is the ultimate complication. Really, all the mods I need are BuildCraft, IC2, Forestry and Optifine.
I haven't played on Alice a lot because it's still 1.2.5 but I have been playing some Feed-The-Beast with friends and on random servers. I have to say that ExtraBiomesXL is a must have. It makes exploring much more fun because of the cool new biomes and custom generation on existing biomes. I really like how NPC villages generate with the mod. I really dislike EE3 and feel it should not be included on Alice. It makes minecraft way too easy. BuildCraft, IC2 and RedPower are great and should be included. ComputerCraft is one of my favorite mods because I can program my turtles to level out land or build mansions for me (maybe not that advanced). I really like the computers with huge screens on a network to set up some sort of bulletin/message board. Having the http api would be even better so we can have access to external scripts and the like. I've been watching Etho's Feed-The-Beast videos and I would love to have forestery because it doesn't make minecraft too easy in te sense of getting up the tech tree to fast but provides great automation methods and automatic farms are definitely cool and save lots of time!
I cast my votes for ExtraBiomes, ComputerCraft & Thaumcraft. I can't see why anybody would raise any objections to ExtraBiomes. As for ComputerCraft & Thaumcraft, I'll admit that I have little experience with either, and chose them simply because they sound like cool mods. Thaumcraft in particular, from what I can tell from wiki pages on it. I'm definitely more towards the Explorer "class".
I know we need IC2, Redpower, BuildCraft, and Thamcraft. in Thamcraft there are no free generators because every thing you do has a consequence. viz will corrupt your chunk (16 X16 blocks) wail vis will help you
