4CM Power im looking at new forms of power rather than water mills posibly biomass k guys for those of you who play on the server and also follow this topic you may know that at times when i have been on there has been masses of thunder that's because I have made exited bees they produce redstone and also cause lightning. now in gregtech there are lightning rods they are extremely expensive but produce tons of power this may be a solution if the lightning is actual lightning not just some bee replica. Spoiler so my in-game name is anouk8 i previously stopped working on this project because of the 1.3/1.4 update i have the building built but i need to fill it and i would like to fill it with a renewable power source i was thinking water mills there relatively cheep. I want to provide server wide power for every one including you or for a city that would appreciate 22016 eu per a tick. some type of energy storage will be needed at 40 blocks to prevent energy loss. my current tower is 64 blocks tall. one energy storage device will be needed at about half way. i am planing on using pneumatic tube to put water buckets into the water mills (it produces more eu per a tick) and in the unneeded spaced fun water down them to provide some energy if the buckets aren't in the machine. the water mills will be positions around glass fibre cable with MFSU at the base. power will be trans ported with BC teleport pipe to people around the server. the people will need to have engine generators to get IC2 power #glass fibre wire towers =96 #water mill towers =344 #pipe towers = ? (i haven't calculated this yet) the cords for this build are X2002 and Y-626 Z 66 update 1 beginning of the supply list okay so i guess for those of you who know about this, there is availability for 24 cable towers per a quarter(96 for the whole thing) and 86 pillars of water mills per a layer per a quarter multiply one quarter by 64 and you get 5504 water mills per a quarter multiply that by 4 and you get 22o16 water mills and buckets for the whole thing that's also 22016 eu per a tick.\ lets divide that by 512 (high voltage power) = 43 that means we can provide 43 people with high voltage power every tick so as long as people don't use chunk loaders and uu mater machines to give them heaps of uu mater. the server only has room for 40 people so this system should be sufficient to produce power for every one on the server building materials water mills = 22016{ cobble stone = 88064 wood planks = 44032 sticks = 44032 refined iron(or 22o16 machine blocks) = 88064 copper cable =11008 redstone = 22016 tin = 44032 } glass fiber cable = 6144 { diamond = 1536 redstone = 3072 glass = 9216 } bat-box/power container of choice = 96 (this is for the mid way point so we don't loos eu) (not subtracted form glass fiber wire, we will need more than listed)(i want to use MFE's)
Huge project! I hope your project will go on, it is the most usefull project I saw since I'm on the server! But anyway the price to access to this energy deliver is high, because of teleport pipes and stuff like so! I just hope you'll get enough known to get enough stuff! If I was playing on Alice, I would support you. Unfortunately I play on Vincent, and the only similar thing you can do on Vincent is a redstone circuit to deliver redstone.
The main post is now clearer, also, it is a good idea to advert about it on threads that are needing of it: Check for cities on Alice too, they must need it!
We actually had a (hacked in) city-wide power in a previous world, but the bigggggest problem we had was that there were always certain people who would very heavily use the system and use up all the power. Unfortunately, if you're going to work on a shared power network, you're going to have to deal with people abusing the system. There's no feasible way to 'meter' power at the moment, which makes it pretty difficult to manage. We did try dropping all power to MV circuits on the end so that people would have less energy, but 128 EU/t is still a lot. Then again, everyone was automatically part of this spawn city if they wanted to be, so we didn't get to pick good residents.
Using a way to regulate the voltage, I think it could be possible. Either way, just more energy source should work, it should deliver more power to more people. For me the best way is to calculate the power made/second (or per tick, as mods are based on that amount of time), then calculate how much power each one should have for everyone to get the same amount. The problem is that we don't know exactly the amount of outputs, so we must estimate it. For me it should be close to 100 outputs max (as we need it for many people, that are using many machinas).
i calculated what i want to build would make 22016 eu per a tick and could suply 43 people with 512 eu per a tick thanks i have done so (topic updated)
43 people, this looks a nice number, but what if someone uses two outputs (or more) ? This way it's not 43, but very less, wich rely on the problem sk89q've spotted... For me you should make multiple frequencies with multiple teleport pipes, and regulate to 512 the number of EU/t the frequency has (I mean the teleport pipe), then give each one a different frequency. This way people would use each time their own frequency, and can't abuse of the system!
the problem is is that the players that want to use them have to place the teleport pipes themselves (this is for servers so no one has to worry about people using there channel and stealing there power/items/liquid) so they ether need to buy them or make them and place them i can regulate that only 1 person per an out put also only 43 can be used at a time.
We could setup a command sign that would require something like this to be put into it [POWERGRID] *blank *blank *blank If you set it up so that it works like the [LOCK] sign so that you and only you can place it or break it but also like how elevators top sign works with floor names but have it automatically add the players name to the sign like so. [POWERGRID] CainChaosis *blank *blank Then you could tell it to count the sign as a power transmitter/MFSU hence only letting them draw out 512/T max if you make it so they can only place one sign EVER of this code type. then for the power uplink you could just have a sign code like this. [POWERPLANT] *blank *blank *blank stating it as the sending transmitter but not an MFSU so there wouldn't be a transmit limit and anyone could place a [POWERRETURN] sign that works the same way to help out and add the extra power they had back to the grid. I might have to create a demo of how you would have to build the building but hopefully everyone understands it without the need. XD
ok thats interesting I personalty don't know much about command signs but i may up load pics of a small demo(of my project) made in creative, so every one know what were making. i will put a tic of what i thought i would do.
err, the infinite water gen. you would need it so large for it to be useful, and you would need a big delay between refills; but logistics pipes are awshum like this and supplier pipes/crafting pipes work with deployers. pretty much you do the normal crafting pipe on the deployer, and it will take a bucket, refill it, then use it to autofill the mills. because we need faaaarr too much automation for this >
i want to make this on the new server maybe look in to biomas and convert it with thermal expansion i also want to set it up as my base so its easy for me to moniter but i may try to get this in to a city
Thermal Expansions Redstone Power blocks are amazing for running machines. Maybe even have something like a refilling station where you could bring your blocks to get them recharged? Depending on the application they can last quite a while so won't need constant power.
I've been playing FTB DW20 and I've found that running a bio fuel system makes more then enough power to run a small operation (tested with 1 quarry, 1 fermentor, 3 stills, 1 induction furnace, 1 pulverizer, and 1 carpenter) with only 2 combustion engines. Grant it that not everything runs at full speed for very long or constantly but fast enough to get things done and the quarry will still mine at about 1-2 blocks per second and thats still faster then mining by hand. So I can say that setting up a bio fuel power plant is possible and quite effective but very hard to regulate compared to using IC power when built into a power grid though you only use gold for the power lines instead of diamonds but you only get 4 pipes vs 6 fiber cables. if you could somehow set it up on timers or something you might be able to at least limit how long people can drain from the grid for a given time like they can drain power for 30 min every 30-60 min but if a person has alot running on thier end of the grid they can put quite a load on the grid in only 30 min specially if they set up a bat grid on their end.
battery grid on their end.... that.is.so.annoying I mean, what the effing hell-but then, use a timer to send ONE crystal, drain it into their house's grid then take it out... no moar abusers nao unless they take the energy crystal -but then you can just proptect the MSFU/MFE
GENIUS DAVE! so simple it almost makes you feel stupid for not thinking of it sooner, might need a few issues worked out of it but it would limit the hell out of people draining the shit out of the grid.
ya or you could limit the draw with Redstone cells and then they can transform it into other powers because Redstone cells work as resistors limiting the power out put
erm... seriously, I dont really need IC2 power as im using buildcraft with hobbyist's steam engines. all we need nao is a converter for overpoweredness as one coal =around 500 MJ and its something like one MJ=20EU, so one coal would be 10 THOUSAND EU(or near enough)
