I don't know about a separate world for us older players but maybe setting our spawn or giving us the /tp power might do the trick so we can get out and away from the spawn area (10K away border area) so that we can be alone and safe from the evil newbs/minge bags and/or far enough that the new players have space/resources to work with cause, lets face it us old players know how the mods work and rip the land apart like a nut eating the tasty insides and tossing the husk aside. maybe having a system that sorted out the newer players the older players and the mid range players and sent them to 3 different locations/spawn areas around the on world might be a good idea so we still have the same amount of strain on the server instead of adding yet another world making more to watch over and lag issues like the last time we had 3 different worlds running at once. I don't rely care if more mods get added or not, I've already PM'ed SK and he said he would take a look when he could and think about it but losing IC2 RP2 or BC and the new plants that just got added would suck rely bad. and to any Moderator or admin that needs some help on the side with SK server stuff I'm more then willing to help take some of the load but I'm not very good at any kinda coding since the last thing I worked on was C++ back in high school but I can shur as hell try. XD
It's not as easy as forming a dev team, getting the mod you wana update and boom, it's updated. For one, most mods are not open sourced, meaning you can't even modify the hardcode. Even if you were to decompile a mod, you wouldn't get the "full" code, but a crappy obfuscated code (important things like packages could change to something like "aaaav" and you'd need know and change them accordingly). Older memers have free signs, /tp would be OP. u wana tp? Use a mappad to tp to players or enderpearl. And Vincent is updated so I don't see the problem there.
I think we could ask some mod authors to provide their sources to our server: If we explain them how we'll use that, taht we won't "steal" their code but only make updates IF WE CAN for their mods but only on unofficial updates released only on our client, maybe some will do: I know that ChickenBones and Eloraam are really kind and could do that, but I have no idea of the others (BTW I don't know nor ChickenBones nor Eloraam myself but I read a lot, and they wrote both that they were happy to collaborate together for the Eloraam addon for NEI, and because of the way they wrote it, I know that they both are open minded) The problem is only with the other mods: We all know how modders hate to share their sources (and I don't get it: that makes me think about gollum, you know the horrible creature in the Lords of the Rings). Everyone should try to contact them, but not to flood them, they shouldn't have to say "no" more than one time, I'm not gonna contact anyone, too busy right now
All we can rely do is try and what do we have anything to lose and if they say no well then we're shit outta luck and will have to move on mod or no.I know that coders can be super protective SK is the same way (I know cause I've gotten some sweet things from him in the past for another game) but all you have to do is ask and tell them why your asking, be friendly and most of all respectful after all they put the work into it and we're lucky they even put it on the web for us to download and use. But like I was saying if anything I'm shur we have the manpower and brains to build a mod/s for the servers if we rely have to and doing it that way at least we know that as long as the SK servers are up the mod/s will have updates and support and can add/remove anything we want at any point in time.
All of this seems like a lot more work than its worth. Most of the mods are usually quick to update(with the exception of RedPower and Forge for Bukkit in 1.4) so I think we can wait the few extra days for the mods to update. There will most likely not be this much of a wait for the next MC version.
We're not talking about 2-3 mods and certainly not the more popular ones but the ones that may only have 1 or 2 people working on who don't have time to keep re-coding after every update and like SK said some other the mods aren't or don't seem to even be getting an update.and I don't know about you but I've been waiting for this server update for how long now 1.5 - almost 2 months, WAY more then a few days and now our server is like 2-3 updates behind when most of the time it's only been 1 and at times 2 updates behind.
We're prolly going to miss a few mods that are in Alice currently, but it's mods that you don't even know are there in the first place or offer very little e.g. Aquaculture. And like I said, good luck getting a mod author to give you their source.
Yeah I can't say I've used any of Aquaculture yet but then again I haven't played since it got added. <<
Useless mod that makes a legit restaurant at club 9 (best place ever on current Alice). You should come on Alice sometime, i'll give you free quantum and show you what you missed. It'd be the first time that'd I went on Alice in like 2-4mo but anytime to show a member around
They might be kind, not sure about CB but I know eloraam doesn't take any shit when it comes to redpower. So i doubt she would even consider it, if it wasn't sk or someone, at least someone who is well known and who wouldn't fool around with it.
CraftBukkit has been ported for 1.4.2. The guy that did the porting has said he only intends to port a version or two, so that mod/plugin authors have time to port their mods from Bukkit to Forge. About ten mods have been ported for the new MCPC, but from the forums, it looks like we should see more soon.
