Don't take what he said to heart. Half the people here are lazy >_> , especially when they see a wall of text.
I was agreeing with Shadow that the applications should be less lenient. I think the admins/mods do a wonderful job of policing the server itself for greifers and the like, but the app process could reduce that workload considerably. People who really wanted to be on the server (as in myself) could resubmit an application and actually try. Or maybe a new paradigm for the application process is in order, such as a greylist (as suggested above) or a more interactive process some other way, like posting builds that prove experience with tech mods, pretty things, etc. Just my 2 cents. By the way, this is by no means an attack on the mods/admins on this server, I love them to death, and I just wanna reiterate that they are doing a great job. Edit: Apologies for throwing the discussion backwards, just wanted to clarify.
Going with the flow of recent comments, i didn't actually apply for the server... i go in at 1.4 (ish) when i found the test server on Google . when sk found me and jawa he offered us a deal, if one of us apply he would add us both. so going with "People who really wanted to be on the server (as in myself) could resubmit an application and actually try." would be quite good, i mean i could have turned out to be a total dick and blown the sh*t out of the server the first chance i got (i didn't by the way, i'm a nice guy.(i think...)) i guess what i'm trying to say is, i agree with shadow and the rest. But they shouldn't be too strict else there wouldn't be as many diffident types of people on the server (sometimes you need to be a bit of a different to bring some fun to a server )
You guys are giving the admins shit for not "weeding out" the griefers and noobs during the application process, but how would you even go around doing that? As sk pointed out above, a person that can type perfectly readable sentences != person who will not grief. Weeding out those who are poor at English isn't liekly to improv the quality of chat much either or u wouldnt be seeing dis kinda typing on a regular basis. How do you propose the admins weed out the griefers? Check for applicants that give you their word they won't grief? Or do you expect the admins to trawl through each applicant's history - including the applicants that din't sign up through the MC forums and thus don't have an easily trackable history? You can't weed a griefer out by their application alone, unless they're blatantly obvious about it ("I LIEK TO BLOW UP BUILDINGS HURR DURR"). And how do you suggest we weed out the "noobs"? By tasking each of them to write essays on IC2, BC and Redpower? And besides, why do you even want to weed them out? Everybody was a beginner at some point. Hell, I'm still pretty shitty with Redpower, despite all my time on the server. And isn't that why there's a college at Alice spawn in the first place?
Yes, but it deters most griefers from even trying. Try turning off the whitelist for a few days, and see what kinds of people join.
main problem with this, dem: What admins/moderators? there are long periods of time where we have no one to monitor the server very frequently, and frankly it's quite perturbing. Second, we get a limited number of applications as it is, I see no reason to limit the number of trial players until we find it to be a problem keeping track of them. Also, putting them in a restricted area where no one makes permanent builds like I suggested earlier would eliminate the need for this :3
Well kaito, firstly I am quite shocked that you said this, as there is always staff around to help you. They may not be on the server, but shoot one of em a message on the forums and they'll be with you in a sec.
Some griefers still apply for whitelisted servers with the usual app format, but writing a few paragraphs about themselves can be a little challenging if they try at all. Sure, someone can write perfectly and still grief. But, the number of people like that is pretty small compared to the number of people who were accepted.
I think that overall this is a good idea, but regarding peoples comments about applying with a picture of someones build, I can see three obvious problems with that: 1) Everyone is a beginner at some point. 2) Anyone can search google for "Minecraft redpower build". 3) A griefer could still be good with mods.
A guy that griefs is stupid, OK... But a guy that spends more than a day, to wait to apply to the server, only to grief, while knowing it is a very well moderated server and that he'll get found fast and banned immediately is a pure idiot....
KILL ALICE, VINCENT FOR EVER! (actually a joke, Alice is way to important to disable it, and also, I support Vincent AND Alice, so it were really just a joke... Please don't shout at me...)
DAMNATE YOU TO HELL!!! Note to mods: please remove this message as soon has Chaeris has seen it (or earlier if you so wish because you are mods blady blah).
Hokay, so judging by what happened on page 2, people aren't putting effort into their applications and still being accepted...? Hm... *strokes chin* The trial mode should kick the player into a trial world, where s/he would be able to build stuff, like normal Vincent except separate from other users except for other trialers and/or moderators. It would have a smaller spawn than the main world, and the player would have to build something awesome. By the way, if you ever unwhitelist me and ask me to build something awesome, I'd probably rage and disappear for a few months, the rage because I know it it will take forever, and the disappearance because skcraft is equal to awesome
How about new people can only mine in the mining world. It get's reset once per month and every player who was online very frequently and didn't do shizz is allowed on the normal world.
