Wow really?, that would be such a let-down if it isn't powerful enough.

What do you even mean? Powerful enough for what?

I'm guessing for what it can do in comparison to forge.

While that DOES exist, it hasn't worked for SMP since the update where servers stopped sending the seed to clients. An alternative would be if SK modded the server so it gave us the seed again, then got rei to fix that feature for an Alice specific version-- that is, if the feature even needs to be fixed at all.

Its not that it hasn't worked its that sk either disabled or never enabled the feature, rei disabled slime chunks and cave mapping by default on smp. But i agree on sk giving us the seed again but still.

the cave thing is kinda cheating... it also find lava so you never mine into it so therefore its overpowered in that sense. that and ore gen rate is I think increased in caves

Why do you think its disabled by default on smp?

ugh... I'm tempted to go to... I can't believe I'm about to say this... technic *shudder* out of sheer boredom, is it possible for the ppl who don't write the mods to port the mods themselves? if so, teach me how and I'll get to work on it

You're both wrong actually, ore distribution is done independently of cave generation. The reason you find more ore in caves is that there is more visible surface area.

besides, the way ore generation is done, if you were to say use a quarry to dig out a chunk, you will get fewer ores from a chunk with a cave in it than if you were score a once in a lifetime shot and find a chunk with no caves in it

Actually, I just checked rei's post on the MCForum as well as some of the replies to it from around the time of MC1.2. The list of features states "Indication of slime spawning chunks (Does not work in multiplayer after minecraft 1.2)"
While the server does send information on what biome the player is in so that it can display the proper biome dependent textures, it is impossible to correctly locate slime chunks without the world seed. Since vanilla servers stopped broadcasting the seed with v1.2, this feature is completely useless in vanilla smp. If a server mod were to be added that re-enabled seed broadcasting, then it may work again, assuming rei did not disable the feature completely in SMP so it would stop displaying slime chunks for a world with a seed of zero.

tbh idrc, but rei did actually disable it by default on smp, unless you enable it with bukkit or you use the mod rei made for vanilla servers.

zero, not the letter o. lol. Anyways, since the server doesn't broadcast the seed, the client assumes "null" or zero, so any mods that allow you to see or use the seed in some way will use zero. Also: if SK set the seed to zero, then it would be zero. that's how X3 I don't think it's possible to get a single digit seed with the random seed generator.

X3 doesnt work here... neither does :3 as they 3 goes a bit below... but it would prob be a nice seed. also, MCedit can generate worlds with selected seeds and uses the MC world gen. POW- world with seed o zero

Dave, I was talking about when you leave the box for "seed" blank when creating a new world using the minecraft client. If you leave it blank, it creates a random seed using a certain algorithm. Given the nature of this algorithm, it is virtually impossible to get a single digit seed, let alone zero, unless you MAKE the seed zero yourself. It's the same thing in MCedit. You are physically setting the seed as zero. That's the only way to get a world with a seed of zero, save by a freak occurrence.

I'm hopefully they are just waiting for the 1.4 version because that version is probably coming out in a few weeks!

1.3 has been released about 40 days ago and it seems that no mod has been ported yet. If the devolopers were updating in all this time, could you imaginate how long it would take for them to update all the shit again to 1.4? :O
