IMO you could still do a lot of things with just server-side stuff, like the map - if it would be possible to have some custom world gen that exists server-side like as red said with finding semi- rare oasis' , and also stuff like the ideas of acid rain or the sun hurting you, I think it probably would be possible with some java trickery.

If it couldn't then you could simply add subtle vanilla-mods to vincent and just change the config options in the launcher from default to "Vincent",
but idk just my opinion on the matter.

I would really like that ideas to be realised. Especially the PvP fractions-thingy. Always wanted to try something like this, if it is well done.

But it's also right, that we need vanilla ice :D

I don't think we will have pvp or factions.
Pvp blows. people always start crying because they lost stuff or just get killed in general. creates nothing but trouble.

And the moon thing. would be nice because we are thinking about disabling the end and the nether.

I think that we should have an insane parkour building. Not one of those lame flat lava ones though, I would like a parkour map that builds upwards so you will be fine to fall early on, but if you fall later you will die. I would also like to be the one to build it (aside from the fact I don't have and screenshots of my builds besides my pixel art :) ) but me building it would not be necessary. I would just like it to be there.

    Concept:
A world cursed by an evil wizard to suffer through an eternity of acid rain throughout the four kingdoms. The worlds best wizards all team up to reduce the number of affected kingdoms to 3 each week. The kingdoms compete every week to not be affected by the acid rain.

    Features:
    - Rain is always acidic dealing periodic damage when exposed to it, unless located in the kingdom that isn't affected that week.
    - Four main continents, each representing a different faction, with different biome generation. Each with a large uniquely designed main town that serves as a hub for important things.
    • Snowy Tundra
    • Grassy Mountains & Plains
    • Desert
    • Jungle
    - A fifth central continent that is built to be the center of the world and house the competition for each week.
    - A weekly event that decides which continent will be acid-free for the week.

    Backstory:

    Velendell - 100 B.N.

In the land of Velendell, long before most people can remember, stories speak of a united world of four kingdoms located on four separate continents separated by ocean. They consisted of:

The Kingdom of Juyo, located in the lush green jungles.
The Kingdom of Thrash, located in the icy tundras.
The Kingdom of Torva, located in the mountainous green plains lands.
The Kingdom of Kharid, located in the bitter dry deserts.

All of the continents were situated around a central continent which housed The Consortium, an elite group of the Velendell's finest warlocks and sorceresses. Each of the Kingdoms could send their magic adepts to join The Consortium. The Consortium kept tabs on all things magic, and ensured that no one Kingdom could be more powerful than another.

All was well in this world, until a powerful wizard by the name of Neelix joined The Consortium. Neelix did not identify with any one Kingdom, and was found in an abandoned castle in the Netherworld during a research excavation by The Consortium. Neelix's powers grew at a much faster rate than many warlocks and sorceresses, something which many consider to be a feature of his mysterious birthplace.

Neelix learned all he could from The Consortium, and then exiled himself to study in private for several years. This was the beginning of his path to destruction. In his solitude Neelix studied black magic, searching for relics of old in the Netherworld. From this research, Neelix developed a lack of compassion for living things, and a hatred of The Consortium, which he felt would never allow him to pursue greater power.

Upon his return to The Consortium, Neelix in secret, killed the leader of the organization, and used his body as a living puppet. With this new found authority at his disposal, he planted a seed of distrust among the four kingdoms, making each think that the other was out to destroy them.

From this seed grew violence, which erupted into war. Thus, the Rune War of the Four Kingdoms began. Thousands died, and from this war grew a need for more warlocks and sorceresses to return to their homelands, leaving few left at The Consortium. During this period, Neelix unveiled his true plan, killing all that remained at The Consortium and taking control of the powerful Nexus that lied within the depths of its chambers. With the power of the Nexus, Neelix enslaved all of Velendell for nearly a century.

Under the control of Neelix, magic users were to be executed upon sight so that no one could challenge him. Magic slowly disappeared from the world, and few warlocks and sorceresses remained. Those that did, went into hiding and started a resistance group with the leaders of the four kingdoms, united once again under a single banner.

    Velendell - 1 B.N.

Together, in the year 1 B.N., the resistance group overthrew and killed Neelix, ending his reign of terror over the world of Velendell. But all was not well, for in his final moments Neelix placed a curse upon the land, declaring that from henceforth the skies shall rain fire down upon the world, and by his hand there shall never be peace in Velendell. It was not a lie. The curse brought down acid upon the world every time it rained, causing much death and despair.

The Consortium returned, weakened and smaller. What was left of the little magic in the world resided in a select few people. Together they worked tirelessly for a year, trying to find a way to undo the curse. Alas, it was in vain, for Neelix's power could not be matched. All that The Consortium could manage to do is make the rain not affect one continent. But which would they choose?

It was in that, that they realized Neelix's plan. Indeed, he had wanted them to fix it so that just one Kingdom would not be effected, so that war would break out again. In spite of Neelix, The Consortium and the Four Kingdoms agreed, once a week there shall be a peaceful competition in The Consortium, to decide which Kingdom will be without acid rain.

    Velendell - 30 B.N.

Alas young adventurer, this is where your story begins. As you spawn in The Consortium, read about the story of our world, bathe in our knowledge, and pick a Kingdom to join. Help us to rebuild our world.

    Possibilities:
    • I think it could be neat to include one of the magic using mods or something. Seeing as it's been 30 years since the end of Neelix's terror, I'm sure that magic would be returning to the land.
    • One of the mods that includes more monsters, or dungeons and stuff would be neat to couple with the magic mod.
    Map:
    • The world would be separated into four continents, each with it's own biome generation algorithms. If this isn't possible, we could world edit four very large continents in the middle of an ocean, and then just have typical terrain gen for land generated beyond that.
    • The 5th continent in the middle will be designed to be very beautiful and runic. It's the hub of the world where the peacekeepers of the land work in tandem to bring about order. It will need to include a big library. Some things to put in it include an embassy for each Kingdom, spleef arena, pvp arena, game arenas, a Colosseum of sorts, shopping districts with many store fronts for player owned shops, an inn, a secret underground chamber called "The Nexus", and much much more.
    • Each of the four continents will need it's own themed city design, which means we're essentially creating five spawns. As people join a particular continent they can buy up areas of land on the continent and build outward from the city or something, including building far away from it if they so please.

Adding an updated map. The way this one works is that if there is no biome algorithm that sk can make or whatever, we could just world edit in those few continents and then have any landmass after that be generated naturally with your typical biome generator.

However if it is possible to create a biome gen that will divide the world into four quadrants with separeate generation instructions for each one, that would be infinitely amazing. Essentially there would be an imaginary line separating the world into four quadrants (the purple line) so that in quadrant 1 for example, it only spawns snowy biomes, in quadrant 2 it only does jungle biomes, and so on.

Another alternative of course is making the Consortium have 4 separate portals that lead to separate instanced worlds with unique biome generators. Meaning each kingdom is it's own world with it's own environment (similar in theory to how you wanted a "moon" instance). This too could be neat.

As far as what the weekly contest will be to determine which lands will have acid rain, I think it would be nice if we built several different arenas and game types that we can cycle through each week.

One of the ideas I have comes from the classic game of capture the flag. Essentially everyone would set their spawn in their respective castle in the arena. The arena will have one castle for each kingdom. They will be differently accented with colors, but have the same exact design. The castles will be surrounded by lava, with stepping stones in some areas.

There are multiple ways to get into each castle, and multiple ways to defend your castle. The game itself will supply arrows, bows, and sets of iron armor. Players will need to deposit their items and die before entering and leaving the arena.

You can choose to barge through the doors of a castle, place ladders onto the sides of the castles to get up onto the side defense walls, or travel into the castle via an underground catacombs system.

Essentially the goal of this game will be to get into the enemy castle, steal the colored wool from their vault and bring it back to your own vault to score a point, all while defending your vault. Whichever team scores the most points in a set amount of time, or the first team to reach a certain number of points will win.

Supply chests in the re spawning rooms will contain stipends of ladders, food, arrows, bows, sets of iron armor, and iron weapons.

The underground catacombs will have traps that people must diffuse before crossing or risk death. There will need to be a way to reactivate the traps too. We can consider allowing people to set up traps also. I want to say that breaking blocks isn't allowed but I'm not sure, we'd have to do some testing. Additionally the catacombs will have monsters.

So it will be a careful balance of defending, attacking, and retrieving with your team to try and win.

Another game of course is to create a "Survival Games" map, and whichever faction is the last standing wins. Then of course there is spleef.

Should have a world where it's perpetual night. And snow in all the places. Nuclear winter? 8D

Take freeze damage when you go outside in the snow...

Wait, has sk reviewed this and does he agree with it? The only reason i ask is because tiffy is going more in-depth into this. It seems like a good idea if all the continents can be evenly divided with people and everyone doesn't just join one continent.

Updating my concept with new names and descriptions. I also came up with the idea that since so much of the land is water, and all the continents are separated by water, there is a strong emphasis on ports and ships. Each kingdom will have their own typical ship theme that corresponds to their nationalistic type.

    Forostar - The Icelands

The peoples of Forostar stood as tall and proud as the great totems that filled their lands. A group of hearty noridc people, their great halls were built of the dark wood elm trees that filled their land. Enduring the hardships of bitter cold winters made their demeanor bold and warlike.

    -Main City: Asgard
When we design this city we should think of very Nordic themes, with native-American wooden totems or something burred throughout the evergreen forest that the city resides in.
    - Ship: Viking Ship

    Arandor - The Jungles

Many a pirate takes refuge in the dense jungles of Arandor. Often called the foulest place in Numenor, Arandor houses the pirate city Port Raga. The landscape covered in lush jungles and pristine waters, with sand as silky as velvet attracts all sorts of interesting sailors.

    - Main City: Port Raga
When I think of Port Raga I think of Tortuga from the Pirates of the Caribbean, a port city located in a huge bay, being overrun along the outskirts by jungle.
    - Ship: Pirate Ship

    Nismaldar - The Mountain Greens

High in the mountains, and low in the plains, the peoples of Nismaldar have long put up with a terrain that can't quite make up it's mind. Fertile and rich is it's soil, covering most of it's earth in green grass. It's people ranging from industrial, to simple farmers, Nismaldar is the land of opportunity.

    - Main City: Aldarion
    - Ship: Chinese Themed

    Emerie - The Desert Dunes

Emerie's environment is harsh and dry. It't summers offer little to no water, and the people have had to make due with what they can find. Great Pyramids and underground civilizations of stone in the sands boast this land's great power. Engineers of the greatest stature can be found in Emerie. A great river running through the continent provides much of the water for their people.

    - Main City: Thebes
    - Ship: Egyptian Themed

    Eldanna - The Stone Lands

Eldana is the center of the world of Numenor. No one Kingdom has control of the land, instead it is maintained by The Consortium, a league of wizards and sorceresses from all over the world who keep order throughout all of Numenor. Eldanna is the central hub of all trade, peace negotiations, and magical advancements. It also houses The Nexus, where all life and magic of this world is said to have originated. Land is bare and stone all around Eldanna, except for the areas near The Nexus.

    - Main City: The Consortium
    - Ship: Flying Ships

Also here's yet another terrible MSpaint map with the updated names and such.

could we maybe get a sky lands generator? its cool terrain, requires no client side mods and adds a cool twist to the typical way people play minecraft.

I lieks tiffys idea very much, except that it needs much moderation. Also, people have to be on the server at a specific time for the contests which is not almost possible.

Hasn't SK hosted hunger games servers on demand before? I thought those were pretty popular. This is pretty much the same concept :p

Hrm. Well... it can take as few as four people online to do the weekly contest thing (I don't think we'd have an issue getting way more than that). Need be we can reduce the number of continents to two or three.

On an entirely different train of thought, if we wanted to create an interesting dynamic of faction-based war...

The world has been divided by war into two different factions: The Solari; worshipers of the sun, and the Lunari; worshipers of the moon. We could somehow work out some sort of dynamic so that members of the Lunari get some sort of advantage when the moon is up, and the Solari get an advantage when the sun is up. Perhaps the Solari take damage when the moon is out, and the Lunari take damage when the sun is out. Just a thought if we're looking at faction-based gameplay.
