I am planning to add the ability to register a chunk as yours. It's not primarily for protection, but rather for performance reasons. Over time, people come, play, and build machines, but while they may get bored of Minecraft and leave, their machines still keep running (when in a loaded chunk). As you can imagine, over several months, especially on busy tracks of land, the performance requirements to keep everything running becomes fairly demanding. Circuits now account for a significant portion of CPU time. The easy solution is to reset the world, but that's not an option at this time. The idea is then to automatically disable certain machines in chunks owned by players that are no longer active. Each chunk will have one registered owner, but they may also have a friends list attached to them. It will be possible to later take control of a chunk owned by someone else if the chunk's friend list contains the new owner as a manager of that friends list. Circuits outside a registered chunk will not run at all. However, not all things will be disabled, as pipes often need to stretch over long distances, so it will be limited to certain active components (timers, pumps, etc.). It may also apply to chunk loaders. Everyone will at first be able to register one chunk for free. Later on, if you stick around, you will get 3 or more chunks for free. Beyond that though, registering a chunk will likely cost a non-refundable fee of 64 coal, or equivalent. Once this is implemented, I will be able to re-enable monsters. If protection is enabled for these chunks, it will likely be protection only above a certain Y coordinate, so you will not run into issues while mining underground. Any suggestions or comments?
Not a necessity but it would be nice to have the ability to prevent mobs from spawning inside your 'owned' chunk for those people who want to make certain builds where mobs shouldn't really be. I love the idea though, anything to reduce lag without affecting regular users is great edit: perhaps rather than coal have it as an item that requires certain advances through the mods to make, like mixed metal ingot or biogas or something along these lines
Personally I would love this idea! When I finally decided to log in to alice as of yesterday from a 3 month or so break... I kept getting booted due to the machinery running in that area but anyways that would be a lovely idea... only problem is how will the islands close to spawn work with this because I have died many times at spawn because of machinery lag >_>
Yes, atleast a diamond block or something that you don't get that easy... dragon egg maybe? Nice idea so far. Maybe let the chests lock themself in the chunk too? And when you add some friends to the friendlist let them have access to the chest and machines running too.(?) I don't have to be right in the chunk, just on the server or in range of the chunk to be loaded, right?
If the first chunk will always remain free then I think the purchasing should be increased a little like Cran and MadNess mentioned. I also think it would be a good idea to start chunk saving from a few blocks below sea level in case people have a house at sea level and have a cellar/basement in their house. This idea would be great for when Alice ends up getting reset as each person in the new spawn city area could have 1 chunk or if they are building with a friend they could combine and have 2 chunks. 1 player 1 chunk would make marking out plots etc a lot easier.
I say we activate a money mod, or use icu as currency, and we make a currency system based on that, after all, 4 refined iron ingots for 16 icu isn't that bad
How about first 2 for free then the next costs something, and the next after that costs more and then it will be like 10 diamonds
I think two free is reasonable, and then maybe a set price? Also, would this be automated? And could you prevent other players from modifying blocks/opening chests etc., like a huge lock sign for a chunk?
What about those of us further from spawn with big machines that span several chunks? Buying chunks for my current setup would probably get expensive (not that I don't have stuff to pay with, and i need to work on an exact chunk count), even though most of my stuff is arranged vertically. I would certainly hope for automation of some sort if we do have to register them.
Gold should be used as money since there is no great uses for it. it wil add more value to it. also the idea of buying chunks to build is complicated it should ba a thing which only applies to the area of 500 block radius from spawn.
gold has a very significant use on RP machines and BC pipes diamond is easy to get from UU mater to and accounting for that you can set a reasonable price As for me I use wide spread amount of land and my solar-panels take even more space ONE of my islands is over 10 chunks and having to claim ownership to all of them would be costly
I have a question about the y coord rule. What if your house's 'basement' goes from y layer 64 all the way down to bedrock?
He said above a certain y coordinate... so if you know this before ... why would you build your base under this? Even if you do, griefing is still not allowed... so there is no danger.
Our base was built under that y coord in the first week of Alice. Who cares if griefing isn't allowed? In the state i live in, stealing and drugs isn't allowed yet people still do it... Madness, you have never seen our house so i don't expect you to understand nor are you a moderator who has to repair griefings on our house at least once a week
The server is not accepting anyone else for now so I'm pretty sure your safe. at least for now. Plus at least your getting compensation?
Cheezus ... PMS much? SK didn't say which y coordinate yet ... Next thing is, the protection is a plus, something you get - not something that is taken. So you should ***** less about not having it IF this would even happen in the future. This is just a game, and one which you don't play very often... And griefing is not a really big problem since admins can undo stuff. Moderator or not, i still have the right to say (type) what i think is right.
