Both are 280s, there is no noticable differance between them. Also, your ram is not compatible with your motherboards since it runs 1866 and your motherboard doesn't support that. (1066, 1333 and 1600 only) It might not be an issue, but I like to have it compatible rather than taking a risk as I am not sure :p

Is there a spesific dealer you want to buy from? Like Amazon UK?

I specifically said the Xeon 1230 or greater for a reason. The 1220 is i5 equivalent 4c/4t and the 1230 is i7 equivalent 4c/8t!

    lol path! :p
But yeah, 1230 is a tad more pricy but you get twice the threads compared to 1220! (Also, xeons have better error correction than the i3/5/7 because they are often used in servers that are running 24/7. Good for long gaming sessions!)

Trying to make my own budget pc of 500 pounds... but I keep getting too high *sadface*

Using linux takes £80 off the price if you had previously selected Windows. But I wouldn't change parts because Linux will generally run your games faster.

I didn't think of getting windows as my last pc (oem) i had started playing around with Linux. In Windows I would get with Optifine no mods nothing running in background lowest settings 1.6 in windows==5-10 fps. Linux and medium settings 1. 6 Optifine = minimum 30fps (sometimes 28 or 29) max (fresh world no blocks or anything) 70 fps. So Linux == gud for nearly dead pcs.

Now that I'm thinking of it: here in the UK we get deals at boxing day. Is it worth it waiting or buy as soon as possible?

UK as well here; that might not be a bad idea, part prices might go down, and cEX is a good place to buy things.

Went again to CeX and saw there was a second hand Sapphire 7870 ghz edition for £89. Would it be worth it getting it over the r9 280 and saving £46?
