While we don't have 1.7 modpack yet and it may be several weeks until we do, we can begin building spawn using a vanilla world.

Before we actually get to building anything though, we need to brainstorm.

Anyone got any suggestions as to a possible theme or setting? Pictures are welcome.

Hmmm idk what kind of spawn would be nice. I think we could do steampunk/industrial and we could hae all these useless factories with conveor belts and lots of railcraft stuff to move items around but you couldnt really build that in vanilla. Ugg all my ideas involve modded stuff ill talk later when i have a vanilla idea. But i still think my first idea would be pretty cool.

How about a fey/dark fey type spawn? I mean maybe incorporate some of the magic related trees from Thaumcraft or future magic mods and also have hillside or darker wood based houses with colored glass of some sort, red/black often works with darker woods. If you wanted to not scare off new players maybe focus more on the magic aspect and have large structures shaped like pumpkins or maybe with some of the portal mods there could be smaller structures that when entered, maybe with dimensional doors, lead to a much larger interior. You could also put up alchemy stations; maybe also pools of water using chiseled glowstone of some variety to light them. There are lots of other ways to go with a fey theme, but this is just a suggestion. I don't have any pictures because lately I've only built industrial but I could do some in single player if you wanted and then post pictures. If you and the moderators aren't into fey/ethereal type magic stuff that's fine too.

Some of the houses could be designed in vanilla 1.7, don't necessarily need mods for that.

    1. A ruined/abandoned town, maybe post-apocalyptic even. The world would be like the ruins of the town of [name here] and the lands around..
Something like this, but of course at a much smaller scale.
    2. A crash landed airplane or rocket or whatever. The spawn NPCs managed to build little shacks and tents around it to keep selling their stuff.
I do like ruins. The idea of them is fascinating to me.

I love this idea. I've tried to create a base like this on 1.5 once, but it never really got finished.

Tonius's suggestion sounds cool and thry fey thing as well but personally i prefer the ruins. But i still think steam punk would be cool. Imagine a series of floating cities via balloon or turbine or what ever but then rail craft carts leaping across the gap between islands to reach there destination or what ever. In my head it seems cool but it might be a stupid idea

I personally like the idea of floating islands, it could easily separate different areas of spawn (such as an island for any correlated set of shops/utilities). The fun of crossing islands would be also be cool with mods, rather than just a bridge. I imagine it to be somewhat like this.

EDIT: Combine all the previous suggestions together = Magical floating ruin islands?

Steam Punk is a way to go, and SK could build windmills for days.

I really like the idea of floating islands in the sky, maybe we can connect them together using the light bridges mod(even though I question the mod's stability)? :D

I'd be totally in for that. I like ruins too, although I wouldn't make a ruin-like base. It seems really great for spawn though.

Floating islands is also nice but I'd wager many people have done things like this. This is not some run-off-the-mill server, we should try something special.

I say penguins EVERYWHERE. Pure penguins. Giant statues of penguins, worship catidels for the penguins, sacrifice alters for the penguins, Everyone should start with penguin hats!

I do like the steam punk - floating sky idea (Then again I am playing Bioshock Infinite xD).

Mabye instead of steam punk in the sky we use thay apocolipse theme with factory style stuff? Like a city with many buildings that is just completely industrial.

Instead of light bridges/minecrafts, the islands move around like in bioshock? No? Oh well... :p

I wasnt thinking of really floating naturals island but more like platforms and houses but penguins idea of a factory in ruins sounds amazing. And this is a bit off topic but in he 1.7 modpack can you please add the feature that it doesnt snow or freeze at high altitude cuz it really ticks me off when i want to build on a mountain or something

An underground lab would be cool. A network of metal tunnels like in halflife 1 with large rooms filled with massive technical structures.

I really love floating islands, but maybe incorporate other things too... I'd also kind of like a magic-themed spawn, so magic blocks everywhere, everyone's wearing wizard hats, etc. Also steampunk is cool. Now combine all of those.

I would like to make a spawn on a hill, such that the roof of one shop is the veranda of the next. Italian towns, with colored walls and roofs, are beautiful examples of this.

It allows a dense spawn, without feeling claustrophobic. The building style lends itself to Minecraft, with rectangular facades, but still allows a lot of freedom for personalization and color. Even new users would be able to explore the town from the air with a glider. It shouldn't be too hard to find (or terraform) a steep hill adjacent to water.

One thing to mind is that I can (and will) build the terrain under (adding in mountains, lakes, etc.) first, so any idea that can make use of this is a plus.
