Okay, so the highlighting and dinging upon a players name being mentioned in the chat is a great idea. Don't get me wrong, I love the feature but it does have it's downfalls. My name is theangrytomato. I get dinged and highlighted on the word 'the' every time it's mentioned it's in chat. The /toggleding command is a temporary fix, and excludes me from the feature. My suggestion, in order to fix the problem for players like myself who have minecraft names containing common words, is to lengthen the required letters needed to ding someone. An extra two or three characters would be ideal, as the only time someone is going to say theang in chat is if they are mentioning my name. Furthermore, to completely eradicate the madness is to teach people in the use of the TAB button, and make highlighting and dinging someone in chat only possible if the full and complete name is mentioned. I believe you can toggle specific dings, not just disable them entirely, I cannot remember what the command is though...
So you are saying I can toggle getting dinged upon someone using the word 'the' in chat, but still get dinged if someone says 'thea' or 'thean'? Does this also coincide with chat highlighting?
Does /highlight completely toggle chat highlighting? If so, as mentioned above, that would exclude me from the feature just for having a name with a common word in it.
I disagree, the ding is a great method of getting people's attention. It is unfortunate that your IGN includes standard English vocabulary, and rather inconvenient that we have a plugin which pings you all the time, whenever the most common word in the English language is mentioned. However this doesn't incite a need for the removal of a plugin, and I see more benefits then downfalls. Especially considering the fact that most people on this server do not have words containing standard vocabulary, and 3 letters is most of the time enough for a quick message to be sent across the chat. I hope that you can relate to my explanation.
I never mentioned complete removal of the mods/plugins in question. I simply provided an explanation and suggested a fix to my problem.
Also, if I may clarify, it is not that I enjoy torturing you by utilizing the word "the" all the time. But making a sentence without _ word _ makes it a lot harder to communicate from time to time. Especially considering _ commodity of its use. Now I know that you are annoyed, but it is no need to cause a ruckus, If you are the only one being affected, the benefit of the group would be greater then your own personal benefit seen as you can turn off notifications. However is more players with names such as "theangrytomato" or "anapeasedapple" (somemovedbannana, coldspaghetti, hotpotato, and so on... ) start joining the game then we should consider a change in the way the plugin works to avoid common words such as hot, cold, some, moved the, and so on...
Not sure what command it was, but on 1.5 i was able to change it so it would only ping me if madd was typed.
My buddy named theassassin3211 has the same problem. At least 4 or 5 letters would be enough. I for myself use tab-autocomplete anyway when writing with someone to prevent any misunderstandings.
You are acting as though I asked everyone to stop using the word 'the'. All I suggested was that they increase the required letters to mention someone in the chat to 4 or 5 characters, not to make some huge changed to the mechanics of the game.
The problem with tab-autocomplete is that it can clutter the chat box, imagine this scenario if you will: You meet this person called "XxxXxXEKSEKSXxXxxX" now, if you autocomplete his name everytime you mention it so that he gets pinged, it would get pretty annoying. That's my point of view on why the pinging system was invented in the first place.
Finally someone who can relate. I applaud your exceptional skill and understanding of the TAB feature for auto-completing names.
And AngryTomato, I'm not saying that the word the has to stop being used, I'm just hinting towards the fact that having used the word the was unreasonably uneventful towards the current situation, and that you have been given the choice to turn it off. Most people call me "mio" on the server, and it saves time and effort.

Simply "turning it off" excludes people like me from using the great feature that you seem to be very passionate of. An extra 1 or 2 letters isn't going to end the world, and it is still saving time.
I would always try to avoid any kind of conversation with someone named like this. That may be a personal point of view. But i know what you mean, the chat would look really ugly. (Why i hate names like this in first place..)
