Lately I've talked with many players that feel Applied Energistics is a terrible mod, and should be removed*. They point out that the mod is a burden on the server's limited resources, and provides no tangible benefit to players. Since those feelings seem to be universally held by players on the server, I'd like to give you the opportunity vote. Tell us why you despise Applied Energistics, and want it removed. * The "player" interviewed may in fact be a zombie pig man.
The new AE should be a bit different, as far as I know... With RedPower 2 gone too, AE fills a lot of the gap.
Considering AE is being re-written for 1.7*, I would think that it should be much better. With that considered, there are some mods that some nicer stuff in terms of item routing; Mainly Tubes ( a near exact copy of RP2 tubes) and TE3 itemducts. With that said; I think a lot of players would agree with me when I say that I do not want to go back to using 30-40 diamond chests to store my all my items, especially with Logistics Pipes (which seems it will be undoubtedly on 1.6). *(ish)
Seriously though, Y U WANT TO REMOVE EVERY ALICE MOD? Maybe you should just go back to vanilla or build your own modpack.
TE item ducts aren't really comparable at all to RP2 tubes -- item ducts are primarily push-oriented. RP2 tubes were both push and pull (but it lacked a request converter aka. crafting machine). Logistics Pipes was also push and pull, but it its push capabilities are very weak. AE is primarily pull-oriented. I honestly have no problem with using an array of chests. It's just performance heavy, which is the main issue.
I can see that; Have you tried tubes?. It's mostly why I mentioned Tubes. Since they are an near-exact copy of RP2 tubes to a far degree. Well that would be the thing. If we didn't have AE for item storage, it's just be LP item storage, and we all remember how bad that could get *shudder*.
Yes, because I made this poll in complete seriousness. I do think AE is "even a caveman can do it" stupid easy. Real logistics and crafting systems are way cooler, and demonstrate builders with a few brain cells to rub together.
I honestly thought that until I saw the poll options To be honest, I often leaning towards agreeing the last few weeks. I've been playing a custom version of ResonantRise on the ATLauncher, and while I've used AE for item storage, I have not used it for even more then 5% of everything I've done in my world. Engineers Toolbox, tubes TE3 and golems account for nearly all types of automation; Neither AE nor LP is everything nowadays...
Couldn't resist the opportunity; I had to come out of lurking, I just had to correct glitch The mods actually called: Applied Energistics see, http://ae-mod.info/ this thread was just so wrong that it hurt ae is while simple is an effective more effective then logistic pipes. K baiiii~
Yep, just a mistake. I would have fixed it ten seconds after posting, but title fields can not be edited by regular users.
I thought the whole reason we got AE so quickly was because of the lag of logipipes. I thought the server has gotten better performance since everyone switched to AE (compare it to everyone having all their current automations switched over to logi or another mod).
We do use AE for performance. Feature-wise, LP has like 90% of AE's features, and RedPower 2 probably is at 70%. Some people will argue with that, but that's because most people don't understand RP2 or LP that well (especially RP2). RP2 and LP can't really complete with AE's performance because AE doesn't bother with sending items through any pipes, which massively simplifies everything. For that reason, we can't really dump AE at this point without also foregoing pull-based pipe systems all together.
AE's storage system is also very efficient. LP clobbers the server when it has to do item searches on large networks.
Back on on 1.4 I had enough centrifuges for 5 fusion reactors setup using storage buses (~100). Each bus only had to read one slot, so when queried by the ME Network it was doing much less work than a storage bus connected to a chest would have.
Autocrafting is a soul sucking, godless practice.. I rather liked the way that LP does auto crafting. But AE is more server efficient so I guess we have to keep it.
