Java version? Also, try downgrading LWJGL. SKCraft doesn't play nice with Macs.

From my 2 years of experience with a mac, I can tell you macs play just as well with java like windows and linux do.

What is the hardware version of your MacBook and the type of graphics card? Are you able to play vanilla MC just fine? I can tell you from experience that Apple has a tendency to ship MacBooks with defective GPUs. The MacBook I used to own was by far the biggest waste of money I've ever spent. The graphics would spaz out in every game I played.

I'm having the same exact problem :(

I can run vanilla Minecraft perfectly, with settings turned all the way up.

    MacBook Pro -- 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 with 16GB RAM -- running 10.9 Mavericks

Touché... Although I can typically run Minecraft (both vanilla + with mods) full-screen at very high settings, without any issues.

In my case, the world itself is fine – it's mainly the UI that causes problems. For instance, if I open the game menu -- it starts bugging out. And the overlays (minimap and item inventory) flicker so fast that they're barely visible.

I'm willing to bet there are a couple of mods in particular which are causing these issues. I'll run a stack trace and see if I can locate where the GPU is getting hung up.

Have you tried uninstalling OptiFine? Other than that I think Apple's graphics drivers are probably incompatible with some of the mods or you have a defective GPU. When I had a MacBook about 3 or so years ago some games worked and many didn't.

I get this problem, it goes away on fullscreen, but when you come back the issue starts again: you need to play in fullscreen constantly.

EDIT: I didn't look at the video, I get a different kind of flickerering, where everything except the sky flickers... my fix might still work though?

I have the exact same problem. Even without Optifine.
I tried it on a late 2008 MacBook Pro with NVIDIA 9400M and 9600M GT w/ 512MB and a 2011 MacBook Air with Intel HD 3000.
Both running OS X 10.9 Mavericks and both have been running for years vanilla and modded Minecraft without a hitch at a decent (30-40+ FPS) framerate.
Has there been any progress on what may be happening? How can you downgrade LWJGL on the SK launcher?

Downgrade your LWJGL, as most have said, I've found its sorted it for the Mac users. Someone pushed an LWJGL update that fixed it for everyone else, but broke it for Macs.

    1. Pick a version from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/java-game-lib/files/Official Releases/
    2. Extract the files into your bin/natives folder (for Alice), replacing the existing ones.
    3. Try running the game.
    For reference:
You may want to wait until the coming world reset though.
