I'm curious if you guys would prefer if world anchors were disabled (again) in the main world, simply because keeping certain peoples' chunks loaded is fairly expensive on the server.

I'm talking a server tick rate at about 8 ticks/second going to 19 ticks/second after world anchor-loaded chunks are unloaded. Results would vary.

A compromise would be a limit of world anchors per person and also per area.

    Please vote in the poll.

I knew this was coming... I'd wager that the TPS isn't gonna go up much since this is just an extra step for those with alts.

Well it was more stable before when chunk loaders were banned, and an alt has limited usage, while people can just put world anchors all over the place.

    It's a bit of a toss up.

Because on one hand, it's good to have world anchors working, since they load less chunks then the average player but there are more of them, but can and will be disabled if the server is under stress or it restarts. Then on the other they can be disabled, and have the performance be higher. But then it would encourage people to load chunks with alts again (considering some people never stopped, since anchors are pretty unstable), and it be more stress on the server.

Either way, it sucks. Because I was under the impression that world anchors were enabled because frame bores/quarries were put "out of action". So if they were disabled, i feel that there would be an uproar since it's 2 things disabled for naught but a waste of time. But maybe if you enabled turtles or something, to add to disabling world anchors. Maybe that would seem more fruitful.

Honestly what we might want is... a limit of world anchors per person (or rather, an equivalent to a world anchor). That way an entire base isn't loaded and people aren't scattering world anchors all over the place, but at least we don't have to resort to alts.

People would need to cram their equipment into a chunk that they want to stay loaded, hopefully keeping non-essentials out.

    How about that?

If you disable world anchors, are you going to disable personal anchors as well? Cuz I like my personal anchor :p

I agree with shadow, it should be a limit per person/area.

While that might be a good idea at first. Once you start to add more and more stuff to the chunks, it eventually just ends up with massive client network lag, which makes the game unplayable (trust me, I've had plenty of experience).

And plus, if you want to do that, you might as well add chicken chunks or immibis' chunk loaders, it would be a lot less work, and would be a lot more controllable when it came to how many chunks they could load.

I think it would be kind of easier if we had spot loader and limit them. They only load one chunk and with a limit per person, I could imagine it that this might work. Unfortunately we don't have Chicken-Chunks installed :/
This is just an idea, I don't know if it works or not.

Yea, I was rushing because I needed to do something so I skim-read and missed the bit in bold about the compromise...

I just have one anchor and that just loads my basic sorting. why cant it be that the world anchor can theel what order its placed in and disable the rest if the tps goes under a certain rate (if the limit is 2 when lag strikes then the 3 placed and up will stop)

I believe we should limit it. If we remove them then everyone is going to bring their 50 something alts back onto the server and hog memory just to stand afk in an area 24/7 (except with server restarts)

Well one option would be to kick AFK players after a specific time, so they aren't able to do this.

The real bad ones have auto-rejoin scripts so that won't help.

The solution is to stop people from having hundreds of anything, much less hundreds of everything.

Crap like GregTech adds in things like plates being needed for everything so you have a choice. Either A) spend 30 minutes making plates to make 1 stack of something (happened to me today) or B) make a hundred plate machines, power to run it all, AE systems to fill and empty and monitor it all and keep it loaded constantly just so basic builds won't take an hour to do, then giant chunk loaded quarries to provide resources for this all. Then times that by everything everyone wants.

I enjoyed world anchors since that meant I didn't have to have my alt in all the time, but whatever. :)

Yeah, GregTech adds a lot waiting time for machines/resources. In general servers have the advantage that you can run machines all the time without the need to be standing next to it, but to do so you need chunk loaders.
Alt accounts are much worser than world anchors, since players load more chunks (I think).
I really can't tell what the best would be to do, since chunk loaders add good things, but also tear down the server performance. :/

    GregTech solution:
Update to GT v2.90f so you can add upgrades like overclockers and transformers to any of the machines.

I also think that a full chunk loader is a waste I would like to see if we can also change the size of the anchor as I only need one loader in the nether for my nether pump but there is not a way with the one that we have. Also another idea is to only keep the loader working when the player is online.

A limit 2 W.A. per person would be a good idea in my opinion (one for a base and a nether pump etc), then also limit the size of quarries to maybe 32x32 so then they arent hawking up chunks and are only loading 4 chunks rather than the max (64x64 = 16 chunks). (or another idea would be to limit the number of quarries a person can setup). There are many ways to go about this problem, but I think completely disabling chunk loaders is out of the question.
