Denied Don't Blink... (New Mobs?)

    Since this is already a modded server and all, how difficult/practical would it be to add player created mobs? Specifically, I'd like to see the Weeping Angel mod added. These and/or other player created mobs would add new challenge to exploring. At this point, simple lava is far more dangerous than any vanilla mobs.

    In general, mods that add more creatures/animals/mobs to the game can cause excessive server lag. But this mod has such a low spawn chance, 2%, I don't think it would be a problem. Also add to this the server disabling mob spawning, the actual chance of encountering an Angel would be legendary.

    I am neither for or against this mod, I just wanted to point out that it would probably not impact the server's overall performance.

    Hmm....

    Even though I do agree with buttons 100%, i an a little weary about the spawn rate. The last time i played with it, the spawn rates were buggy as hell, and made them spawn more then any normal animals ten-fold. If that has been fixed, i would love to see this mod added.

    The theme of this server believe it or not is more Industrial. The only reason Thaumcraft was added was simply because it was Thaumcraft gone SMP :p

    Good thing that weeping angels aren't really magical, more of science fiction, so they DO fit.

    i don't watch dr. who but i have heard all about the creepy weeping angels,
    they are much like the enderman except if you look away they get you

    Weeping angels' only scary factor, is only in the TV series. In the actual game, they are easier then endermen IMO

    dont do mocreatures, because its mobs... lets say they spawn about 500 billion zebras with all extra LIMBS for the manes. client lag to the death.

    The problem with adding mods is that 95% of the mobs are not interacted with, and they they consume more than CPU than blocks. So you're losing a lot (CPU) while gaining fairly a little (the novelty of a few mobs).

    Though with the Weeping Angels, s/he has some extremely strict distribution guidelines.

    While we're on the topic of mobs, why is it that pretty much everyone is turned off except for the ones that possibly cause the most lag? That being Squids & Wisps. Wisp spawning is boundless and I've had up to 400 spawn in a little glass case built around a corrupt node. There's another 200 Wisps just north, and west of my house. I also heard that Squids at Button's base are accumulating by the 100s.

    The other mobs are not turned off, surely no more than squid. Squid spawning is disabled in the configuration of the server we use, but whether this makes a difference is another matter.

    There's no setting to disable wisps last I checked.

    All the crappy mobs that no one wants are the hardest to disable and they take more work to disable them.

    It's also worthy to note that each mob takes like 0.5 to 1% of total CPU. Therefore to disable one type of mob only nets us a 1% improvement. That's also the case with the blocks --a BC laser might take 2-4% of CPU. Literally everything takes like 1-4% of CPU (except with AE sometimes), making CPU usage reduction practically impossible.
