I want to have the files(the .jar the mods folder, everything really except the save file) so I can run my own server, but it'll only be me and my friends (all people I have met IRL) the server will be private with probably no more than five people at one time. This will also allow me to make any changes or requests on my own, it will also allow my friends and I to have a lag-free experience (because the server is run in Germany so having one run in Australia will allow us to have a better experience with less lag).I WILL NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE DISTRIBUTE THIS TO ANY ONE OTHER THAN MYSELF(transferring from one computer to the other) Email me at: aarondjd@gmail.com if you can supply me with the requested files (or if you can post a tutorial on how to make a replica server instead of sending the files themselves)
for* Also i think sk won't distribute the files becuase a) they change all the time, b) he spent so many hours on it to get it working and nearly lag free and c) just play on the server, dude.
I know of someone that came to the server, asking sk89q to give it's server.jar (plus mods) against 100$ through PayPal, and sk89q refused, and said then: I would never, under any circumtumances give my moded server jarfile with mods in it, because in total, it required too many hours of work to be even counted. Money won't change my advice! It should be close to that at least!
Ok thanks for the reply, I attempted to make my own version of the server then just got bored with it so I stopped... But started my own mod pack which tries to add an rpg feel to minecraft. It's fairly early in development and won't ever be released due to copyright on some of the mods but so far it's quite promising! It is a shame though... Oh well if sk denied $100 I doubt he'll accept a polite asking.
Its actually very simple to get all the client files on a server, just go through the mod list (Google Spreadsheet/In-game) and download them one by one and copy config files from the .skcraftalice folder and that is it. Not a good way of doing it but does the job.
I'm not sure: sk89q fixed a lot of bugs, so he probably modified the source code, and it is really long, so I don't think that just installing mod would make the same server, but something close to it, really buggy! (as the first alice 1.4.6 update )
Yes and that is why.. sk says he won't give out his files even for $100. Mods having bugs is not something you expect a person like sk to fix, you expect the mod developer to fix it!
offered any dollar amount ought to be a put off, as the mods are not his property either. it'de be nice to be able to use alice singleplayer and open to lan (for playing with friends, creative etc.) though i can understand not doing it. its lots of work fixing bugs between mods, just for someone to rip your work and start their own server.
But, nobotious, I got a good idea for you! You could just install LogMeIn Hamachi, then invite your friends in your lan, then start a solo game with the Alice client, and finally you can open your world to the lan. Your friends should now be able to view your lan world! And as sk89q probably fixed both client and server, I think you should have pretty much the same thing than Alice. But it means you can't pay a hosted server with another version of Alice running on it, so no matter how hard you will try, it looks like there is no way to steal sk89q's work, and it is good like that!
You could ask sk for past versions of Alice. Since there is no way for anyone to play a server version of those now, sk might be more lenient. Or not. Asking wouldn't hurt though.
If you're talking about server files, then its the same thing. Otherwise I'm not sure why anyone would want to play 1.2.5
no,normally i can port forward and have friends play on my "open to lan"(on regular mc), the issue i believe is in the way the client is set-up right now. people can attempt to join, they end up with errors though.
Doesn't work, me and Sam tried this for an hour or two, could never get it to work. Could see each other, could start connecting... but errors out like mad, consistently.
